Google forms is an assessment and survey tool that sits within your Google Workspace for education. You can use Google forms to track assessment and gather feedback which allows you to also produce automated responses.
The simplicity of Google Forms is immediately evident when you look at the types of questions available. There are multiple choice, drop-down, and short answer question types, and you can ask respondents to upload a file to your survey. So the question format is pretty simple which makes it easy to use, but you may be looking for more options, so it is a double edged sword. The really positive aspect is the controls you have for validating responses, the option for quizzes to be marked immediately, the ability to add content in the answer feedback to allow further reading or information for extended activities, good integration of video and images plus if you can really help address differentiation with the navigation of the questions based on student answers.
Use the ‘release later after manual review’ to try and keep your assessments personal. Automated responses are great but sometimes you need to add in a personal statement for them. For example if you set an assessment for 25 students which includes 20 questions, then automate the questions 2 to 20 and allow yourself time to mark the first question manually using the students name etc, then release the marks. That way you are only marking the same question (question 1) 25 times, but it will feel much more personal to the recipient.
